How To Become a HumaNext-er, and Why

After attending our HumaNext 2007 event, Carol Hovey sent me an email with her feedback saying, "Thank you for such a fact filled experience. I continue to think of the various interactions and thought provoking exercises. The experiential and visual reinforcements were powerful. Thank you!!! I look forward to being a "HumanNext-er" for a long time."

It was the first time anyone has used the term "HumaNext-er." I loved it. I immediately decided that it's a perfect term to describe not only those who have attended our events and will become certified in our workshops, but also those of you who read our newsletter and believe in our mission of creating a more caring and creative workplace. So from this moment on, we will refer to those who are enthusiastic about HumaNext and its work as HumaNext-er. Thank you Carol, our first HumaNext-er.

To help you become and benefit from being a HumaNext-er, we are going to build a social media site to enable HumaNexters to know each other, discuss issues, post articles, join interest groups, and form a powerful global community. Details will be coming soon.

But why would anyone want to become a HumaNext-er? What do you gain by becoming one? Well, by becoming a HumaNext-er through reading our newsletter, using our products and tools, attending our workshops, adopting our training and communication methodologies, and supporting our exciting mission, you will gain the following benefits for yourself and your organization:

  1. You will be part of a growing global community with the exciting mission of changing the culture of work through powerful training and compelling communication.
  2. You and your team will transform the way you look at work, adopting a "Thank God It's Monday!" outlook.
  3. You will become a change-agent, helping to create a more positive and productive work environment.
  4. You will inspire people to continue to learn and grow at work.
  5. You will communicate differently, using a new positive and powerful language in critical conversations.
  6. You will develop higher emotional intelligence that you can apply at work to increase your effectiveness in working with others.
  7. You will develop higher creativity that achieves greater innovations for the organization.
  8. You will create a relation-shift in the way you and your team work, communicate, and collaborate.
  9. You will create a workplace of diversity and inclusion where all people are embraced and invited to work together as equals to produce great results.
  10. You will learn, apply, and advocate for a new kind of leadership, using coaching not controlling to engage employees to achieve greater visions.

HumaNext's Mission and the T.G.I.Monday Story!

How I Created a Company, and a Movement

By Francois Basili, President, HumaNext LLC

Driving to work one morning, I saw a bumper sticker that said: “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.” I was deeply saddened. We spend most of our waking hours at work. Isn’t it sad to go through life feeling this way? What a waste! I remembered how miserable I was in my first job as an engineer. I didn’t have passion for what I was doing, and my boss denigrated people and made them feel bad. Going to work every morning I felt like a ‘Dead Man Walking.’ When I changed my career, I found myself coming alive again. I learned the importance of having a job you love, in a work culture that uplifts the spirit and ignites the passion to achieve great things. In early 2002, during the difficult few months after Nine Eleven and in the midst of difficult economic times, I created a company to help people change the culture of work and build an exciting workplace that would prompt them to say, Thank God It’s Monday!

Some people thought I was crazy to start my own business at such time. But I persisted to see our business turn in a few years into a movement with enthusiastic supporters in thousands of workplaces around the world. With limited online marketing and a lot of word of mouth, more and more people subscribed to our newsletter and wrote to us enthusiastically about our mission. Our subscribers and customers included managers, consultants, communicators, CEOs, educators, trainers, and workers at small businesses and leading organizations from AT&T, Boeing, Chase, Dell, and FedEx, to IBM, Intel, NASA, 3M, the US Army, World Bank and the United Nations.

What drove me to initially take the risk of starting a business in a tough economic time, and then kept me going was my strong belief that working people deserved a better work culture than the cut-throat, merge and purge, downsize and downhill, 'greed is good' cultures found in many American corporations at that time, when the collapse of Enron was the biggest story. Today in 2009, after the near collapse of the entire world financial system, my belief in our vision and mission is even stronger. We’ve seen how many hard working people lost their life-savings because they worked in destructive, uncaring, and unethical corporate cultures that caused the collapse and bankruptcy of their organizations. We’ve seen how some top executives of some of America’s biggest corporations descended on Washington in their lavish private jets to beg for tax-payers’ money, showing total lack of sensitivity to and awareness of the feelings of the people whose money they will be receiving. With all of this happening, we are committed, more than ever, to providing powerful tools to help people create a new kind of work culture that's ethical, positive, creative and productive at once.

And we have been helping aspiring consultants create training businesses that support a similar vision for a better work culture by training them to become HumaNext Certified Facilitators to deliver our workshops to clients around the world. (See : http://www.humanext.com/HumaNext-Events.html )

Our Mission:

  • The mission of HumaNext is to provide people and organizations with the latest training and communication tools and technologies to create a more positive and productive workplace.
  • Our innovative learning tools, communication strategies and training programs inspire people to transform the organization from an impersonal bureaucracy to a creative and caring community.
  • We are not satisfied until the new workplace prompts people to adopt a Thank God It’s Monday attitude!
